Korean Workers Party declares Kim Jong-Un supreme army commander

Earlier, Kim held the post of deputy chairman of the KWP Central Military Committee, headed by his father

PYONGYANG, December 31 (Itar-Tass) — Kim Jong-Un, the junior son of Kim Jong-Il who passed away on December 17, shouldered the command of the North Korean armed forces.

This was announced by an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the central committee of the Korean Workers Party (KWP) here on Friday, as quoted by the KCNA news agency on Saturday.

Earlier, Kim held the post of deputy chairman of the KWP Central Military Committee, headed by his father.

Another Tass dispatch from Pyongyang says that the central committee of the Korean Workers Party and KWP Central Military Committee addressed Korean people on Saturday with joint calls in connection with the coming (next year ) celebration of the 100th birth date of the first and “eternal” President Kim Il-Sung.

They note that the country’s party, army and people, turning their grief on the occasion of the death of Kim Jong-Il on December 17 into force and valour, “should boost in every way political and military might of the country and strive for a revolutionary upswing under the leadership of dear and highly esteemed Comrade Kim Jong-Un”.

The calls stress the need for “making a great victory next year to open the road to powerful and prospering state and to demonstrate the entire world continuity and invincibility of the Korean revolution”.
