PRETORIA, December 31 (Itar-Tass) —— An explosion near a mosque in the northeast of Nigeria left four people dead. The bomb went off when parishioners were walking back home after the Friday prayer, army spokesman Hassan Mohammed said, adding that the crime scene in the city of Maiduguri had been fenced off.
Last Sunday saw two terrorist attacks, which killed 42. The bombs were exploded near three churches. In two other instances terrorists attacked members of the Nigerian security forces.
The Nigerian Muslim sect Boko Haram claimed responsibility. The sect, whose name literally means ‘western education is a sin’ is pressing for the establishment of Sharia laws in the north of the country.
