Naryshkin dismisses rumors Sixth State Duma may fail to work for 5 years

The opposition said earlier that it would organize a new parliamentary election in the case of its victory in the presidential election

MOSCOW, December 30 (Itar-Tass) —— State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin has dismissed rumors that the Sixth State Duma may fail to operate throughout its five-year term of office.

A reporter asked Naryshkin to comment on the opinion of certain politicians that the terms of office of the Sixth State Duma might be reduced considerably, to twelve months or a bit longer, due to the political modernization bills of the president.

“The State Duma is elected for the period of five years in compliance with the constitution, so the Sixth State Duma will work for five years and its work will be efficient,” Naryshkin said.

The opposition said earlier that it would organize a new parliamentary election in the case of its victory in the presidential election. Such statements were made by Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, A Just Russia leader Sergei Mironov and Liberal Democratic Party head Vladimir Zhirinovsky.
