Temperature falls below minus 50 in Russia’s pole of cold

VLADIVOSTOK, December 30 (Itar-Tass) —— Temperature in the Oymyakon area in Yakutia which is often called the Russian Pole of Cold fell below minus 50 degrees Centigrade on Friday, the local weather service said.

The record low temperature of minus 56 degrees was reported overnight at the weather station of Yurta where four people are on duty. In the Oymyakon administrative center of Ust-Nera with a population of eight thousand it was minus 54 degrees.

In the central part of Magadan region temperatures ranged from minus 46 to minus 50 overnight.

Weathermen said bitter frosts would continue in New Year days but will hardly beat the record of minus 67 degrees in Oymyakon.
