KRASNOYARSK, December 28 (Itar-Tass) —— The Tuva quake has caused no serious damage to the industrial premises of the nuclear mining and chemical enterprise based in Zheleznogorsk in the Krasnoyarsk region, the press service of the enterprise told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. No violation of the norms of safe operation of the enterprise and its technological equipment has been established. The workers could feel earth tremors on the premises of the Isotope-chemical plant, but no quake was heard on the underground premises of the enterprise because the seismic activity underneath is 1. 5 -2 points lower than on the surface, experts said.
All the blocks of the chemical and mining enterprise located both underground and on the surface have been working in a usual regime, the press service said.
A detailed inspection of other enterprises conducted in the Krasnoyarsk region on Wednesday morning showed that "the hydro technical facilities have been operating in a normal regime," said First deputy chief of the Krasnoyarsk department for emergency situations Yevgeny Vershinin.
No serious after-effects of the quake have been found in Khakassia, a local commission for emergency situations declared at its meeting on Wednesday. The situation in Khakassia has been monitored every hour, said Chief of the Head department of the Ministry for Emergency Situations in charge of Khakassia Andrei Firsov. Last night all the teams of the Ministry for Emergency Situations in Khakassia were put on alert. Four radio and four television channels have been used to notify the population. All the miners working night shifts have been brought to the surface. The Sayano-Shushenskaya and Mainskaya hydropower plants have been operating in a normal regime.
The Tuva quake has caused no damage to any of the buildings in Irkutsk, the press service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations supervising the Irkutsk region told Itar-Tass.
A representative of the regional emergencies department said that railroad facilities of the East Siberian Railway and the enterprises of "Irkutskenergo" enterprise had been inspected. Special attention was paid to bridges, heat supply facilities, oil and gas pipelines. No damage has been found, the source said.
Russian Minister for Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu earlier declared that the Tuva quake measured 9. 5 points on the Richter scale. "Such a seismic phenomenon with a magnitude of 9. 5 points had never been registered in Tuva throughout the whole history of seismic monitoring," Shoigu said.
Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu demands find and punish saboteurs, who are intimidating Siberian residents with a devastating earthquake.
“A constant and absolutely incomprehensible campaign of sabotage continues in the Internet in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Frankly speaking, people are exposed to mocking, a forecast from an unclear source is made that a devastating earthquake will rock in 30 minutes and the children are being evacuated from the schools,” the minister said at a telecom conference at the Ministry of Emergency Situations on Wednesday.
“I instruct the main emergencies department in the Krasnoyarsk Territory together with the law enforcement agencies to find the saboteurs and punish them,” Shoigu pointed out. He noted that officers of the Interior Ministry and the Federal Security Service should be involved in this work.
The emergency situation minister recalled that after the earthquake he gave instructions about a round-the-clock information campaign for residents in the regions, where the aftershocks were felt. “I gave instructions that all news wires and television channels in all regions should activate the notification system to tell people about what is being done and what forecasts are made and what is happening,” Shoigu noted. “Unfortunately, this was done far from all regions and I want to single out the Krasnoyarsk Territory in this respect,” Shoigu underlined.
