MOSCOW, December 26 (Itar-Tass) —— The registration of CPRF leader Gennady Zyuganov and LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky as presidential candidates may be considered on December 28, Central Election Commission Secretary Nikolai Konkin said on Monday.
"I think we will consider the issues for the registration of the leaders of the parties on December 28. There are no comments that would prevent it," he said.
Thus, the Central Election Commission plans to officially register all the candidates from the Duma parties before the New Year. The other contenders, including Yabloko-nominated Grigory Yavlinsky and self-nominees, under the law, must submit at least 2,000,000 signatures of support for the registration. The deadline to submit the documents is January 18.
The presidential elections in Russia are planned for March 4, 2012.
