TIRASPOL, December 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The second round of the Transdniestrian presidential election is well governed and democratic, yet some violations occur, State Duma election observers told reporters.
“We recorded a number of violations at ten polling stations. For instance, the 70th polling station in Dubossary had plenty of canvassing materials of a candidate,” member of the State Duma Agrarian Committee Alexei Ezubov said.
In all, the election is fair and democratic. “Representatives of election staffs of candidates are present at all polling stations. They offer no critique of the election process,” he said.
Election monitors from Russia, South Ossetia, Moldova and some other states are working in Transdniestria.
The unrecognized republic is choosing between ex-Speaker Yevgeny Shevchuk and incumbent Speaker Anatoly Kaminsky, who gained 38.55% and 26.3% of votes in the first round.
The Central Elections Commission will announce the preliminary results on Monday, and the final results will be available within five days. By constitution, the president elect will take the oath no later than 30 days after the official election report.
