Russian language has unique status in Azerbaijan – ambassador

Thousands of Russian language teachers in Azerbaijan are an important element of the spread of Russian culture in that country

BAKU, December 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian language has a unique status in Azerbaijan, Russian Ambassador to Baku Vladimir Dorokhin said on Friday.

“It [the Russian language] is not forgotten here; it is broadly used in everyday communication, at schools and higher educational establishments, in the printed media and on television. That is a positive factor in Russia-Azerbaijan relations,” he said.

“By promoting the development and studies of the Russian language, Azerbaijan does that for the sake of itself and its citizens, not for winning approval by Russia,” he said. “Russia values high the solicitous attitude to the Russian language and culture, which is provided in Azerbaijan on the state level.”
