YEKATERINBURG, December 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Firemen have not put out a tens-of-meters-tall pillar of fire at the Yekaterinburg largest marketplace Tagansky Ryad. The smoke can be seen from the distance of several kilometers, Sverdlovsk regional police spokesman Valery Gorelykh told Itar-Tass.
Policemen and market security are guarding the entry to the burning warehouses; the traffic is blocked, and the traders are evacuating their stock, he said.
The fire broke out at 12:25 p.m. Moscow time. Twenty-five fire engines and 115 firemen are putting out the blaze on 1,000 square meters.
“Businessmen are risking their life in an attempt to save their stock. The policemen are trying to keep them away from the burning warehouses. Causes of the fire are being found out,” he said.
Sverdlovsk regional police chief Mikhail Borodin and Sverdlovsk regional prosecutor Sergei Okhlopkov are personally controlling the case.
