Over 21,000 people participating in Moscow protest action

People keep coming to the rally, the situation on Academician Sakharov Avenue is calm

MOSCOW, December 24 (Itar-Tass) —— About 21,500 people gathered for a rally under the slogan “For Fair Elections!” on Academician Sakharov Avenue in downtown Moscow, spokesman of the Russian Interior Ministry Valery Gribakin told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

“Some 21,500 people passed through the metal detectors,” he said.

Some 700 journalists are covering the rally.

“The situation is calm. No people were detained,” Gribakin stated.

Most people are carrying white and orange balloons (people were not carrying them at the previous rally) and white ribbons on the clothes. White round badges, which symbolize the fair nature of the elections, and the leaflets were given to the participants in the rally.

The demonstration organizers urged the protesters to tell the police about any saboteurs. “If you notice that someone behaves in the strange way next to you tell him that he should not behave so. If he keeps doing this, tell the police and they will neutralize the saboteurs,” a host of the demonstration Vladimir Ryzhkov said.
