VLADIVOSTOK, December 24 (Itar-Tass) —— A strong snow cyclone, which is passing on Sakhalin, cut electric power supplies in many residential houses in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Dolinsk and the settlement of Starodubskoye in southern Sakhalin.
Snow drifts were reported on the runway at the airport in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the airplanes do not land and take off for about a day. The Vanino-Kholmsk ferryboat line was suspended over a storm in the Tatar Strait (the north of the Sea of Japan (the East Sea)).
Four specialized ships, which operate on the ferryboat line and intended to ship 26 railway wagons and 100 passengers for each trip, have taken shelter at the ports Sovgavan and Vanino in the Khabarovsk Territory.
Snow drifts blocked the highways, the traffic is restricted, the press service of the Sakhalin regional emergency situation department reported. Sakhalin lives in the conditions of a storm warning, people are recommended not to leave their settlements.
