MOSCOW, December 23 (Itar-Tass) —— The Yuri Dolgoruki nuclear-powered submarine of the Russian North Fleet has made a salvo launch of two Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Igor Konashenkov told Itar-Tass.
“The Yuri Dolgoruki nuclear-powered strategic submarine performed the last test launch of the year from a submerged position on Friday in the course of state testing of the Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile,” he said.
“Two intercontinental ballistic missiles were fired at an interval of several seconds from the prospective Bulava carrier – a fourth-generation nuclear-powered submarine of Borei project,” Konashenkov said.
“The missiles were launched from the White Sea towards the Kura testing range in Kamchatka. The missiles performed a normal flight, and warheads reached the testing range in due time, which was confirmed by controlling stations,” he said.
“The Yuri Dolgoruki crew led by Capt. 1st Class Vladimir Shirin has done four successful test launches of Bulava missiles within the past six months, which is a proof to the high skills and professionalism of the sailors,” Konashenkov said. The previous test launches were done in June, August and October 2011.
