MOSCOW, December 22 (Itar-Tass) — President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday appointed Sergei Ivanov the Kremlin chief of staff. Sergei Ivanov has occupied the post of deputy prime minister until now. The head of state has signed the relevant decree, Medvedev's spokeswoman Natalia Timakova told reporters.
Dmitry Medvedev, by his decree, "appointed Sergei Borisovich Ivanov chief of the Kremlin staff," Timakova said.
On December 20, Medvedev relieved previous chief of the Kremlin staff Sergei Naryshkin of his duties after the latter won a seat in the new parliament. Naryshkin's deputy Vladislav Surkov briefly substituted for him.
Naryshkin was elected speaker of the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament on December 21.
