BEIJING, December 22 (Itar-Tass) — An explosion occurred at one of gas-wells belonging to the China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Develoment Corporation -- the major oil and gas company of the People's Republic of China -- in the south-western Chinese province of Sichuan on Thursday. A strong fire flared up after the explosion, the Xinhua news agency reported.
One person is reported to have received serious injuries, and another one was reported missing. The inhabitants of nearby villages were evacuated to safety as a result of the incident.
By now firemen have brought the flame under control. An inquiry into the causes of the emergency has been launched.
