MOSCOW, December 21 (Itar-Tass) — Police detained two senior tax officials in the Moscow region on suspicion of stealing 20 million roubles of budget money, the investigation department of the Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
The suspects in question are chief of district inspection # 2 and a department head, an investigator said.
The tax inspectors embezzled funds by drawing fictitious VAT refund documents for a number of companies.
Criminal proceedings were opened over "fraud committed by a group of persons in collusion using office position and causing a large damage."
