MOSCOW, December 20 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev has relieved Sergei Naryshkin of the duties of the presidential administration head in connection with Naryshkin’s election as a State Duma deputy, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.

First deputy head of the presidential administration Vladislav Surkov will be performing his duties, presidential press secretary Natalia Timakova said back on December 15, as she was accompanying the chief of state on his visit to Brussels.

She also said that the new head of the Russian presidential administration would be appointed in the near future.

Surkov joined the Kremlin administration in 1999 as an assistant to the administration head and a deputy head. He was promoted to the position of the first deputy head of the presidential administration in May 2008.
