Duma chairperson not on agenda of packet agreement

Every faction will nominate and vote only for its own candidate

MOSCOW, December 20 (Itar-Tass) — The question about a candidature for the State Duma speaker is not included in the so-called packet agreement of the factions, which was drawn on Tuesday.

This means that every faction will nominate and vote only for its own candidate, one of leaders of LDPR /Liberal-Democratic Party of Russia/ Igor Lebedev said on Tuesday. Some deputies forecast him to become a possible deputy chairman of the State Duma.

“The working group on organisation of the work of the sixth convocation drew the ‘packet agreement’ today at its last meeting,” he said. “The question about the speaker is not in it.”

“We have reached consensus regarding the State Duma’s structure, candidatures of deputy speakers, and distributed heads of the committees,” Lebedev said.

Every faction will nominate its candidate for the position the speaker, and will have separate voting, which may be secret one, Lebedev said. He confirmed that LDPR will offer its leader, Vladimir Zhirinovsky. He also said that Just Russia had announced the intention to nominate Sergei Mironov, and CPRF /Communist Party of the Russian Federation/ - Ivan Melnikov.
