VLADIVOSTOK, December 19 (Itar-Tass) — Bodies of 13 dead people have been found in the Okhotsk Sea area where the Kolskaya drilling platform wrecked on Sunday, December 18, the press service of the Far East transport investigation department reported on Monday, December 19.

“The bodies of four dead people have been taken out of the water. In addition, rescuers found nine people with no signs of life,” the press service said.

The accident in temperatures of -17C at around 14:00 local time (0200 GMT) in the Okhotsk Sea happened as the Kolskaya rig was being towed from the eastern peninsula of Kamchatka to Sakhalin by an icebreaker and a tug.

According to the latest reports, 14 people were rescued, 13 people were died and 40 people are missing.

A criminal case is opened over the wreck on charges of sea transport safety regulations violation that caused deaths. The main versions are violation of the safety regulations in the towing operation and ignoring of the bad weather conditions.
