Three ships searching for people in oilrig wreck area

Only 14 people were saved so far from 67 people, who were staying onboard the Kolskaya oilrig at the wrecking moment

VLADIVOSTOK, December 19 (Itar-Tass) —— The Magadan icebreaker , the Georgy Foyer tanker and the Smith Sakhalin supply ship are searching for missing people in the area, where the Kolskaya oilrig wrecked in the Sea of Okhotsk.

The Yuri Tarapunov ship and the Atlas rescue vessel are to arrive in the search area on Monday morning, the Vladivostok maritime rescue coordination centre reported.

Only 14 people were saved so far from 67 people, who were staying onboard the Kolskaya oilrig at the wrecking moment. Four of them were airlifted by a helicopter of the Aviashelf Company to Nogliki on Sunday evening and were brought to the intensive therapy ward at the central district hospital with a strong overcooling.

The emergency response headquarters were formed at the emergency situation management centre in the Sakhalin Region and the Far Eastern regional emergency situation centre. The information coming from the emergency situation area is being gathered and processed. The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk maritime rescue coordination sub-centre and the Russian Transport Ministry are coordinating the rescue operation.

Psychologists from the Far Eastern branch of the urgent psychological aid centre arrived from Khabarovsk to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to give psychological consultations to relatives and injured oilrig workers.
