UNITED NATIONS, December 15 (Itar-Tass) – Russia has made public at the UN Security Council a draft resolution on Syria, which contains a call for launching a political process there that will be steered by the Syrians themselves and for putting an end to violence on the part of both the government and the opposition.

The document voices support for the Arab League’s initiative for a political settlement in Syria.

Nabil el-Araby, the Secretary General of the Arab League has expressed grave concern over the scale that the bloodshed in Syria is acquiring. He issued a demand to the Syrian government to abandon the forcible methods of putting out the popular protests.

While saying this, he again turned a blind eye to the operations of Islamic extremists in Syria.

The Syrian authorities should put an end to violence immediately, withdraw troops and army vehicles from cities and get down to implementing the Arab League’s Roadmap for settling the crisis, El-Araby said.
