BRUSSELS, December 15 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is confident that countries of the European Union will manage to cope with the economic crisis.
Medvedev said the issue of overcoming the aftermath of the global economic crisis was in the focus of detailed discussions on Wednesday with President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission Chairman Jose Manuel Barroso.
“We hope that our colleagues will manage to overcome those difficulties that exist at the present moment. We are practically sure of that and are very interested in that as well,” Medvedev said in the opening remarks at a working session of the Russia-EU summit in Brussels.
The president said the situation in the European Union, Russia’s biggest trade and investment partner, is a matter of concern not only for European countries themselves.
