MOSCOW, December 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Owner of Russia’s ONEXIM Group Mikhail Prokhorov confirmed his interest in buying the Kommersant daily.
“I am not involved in business now, but i have given instructions to Head of the ONEXIM Group Dmitry Razumov,” Prokhorov told reporters. “Yesterday, the offer was ready, and he is involved in negotiations.”
“For me personally, as for a potential investor, the Kommersant daily is interesting, but now I am not a businessman, I am a politician,” he added.
Earlier, media reported that the Kommersant’s owner Alisher Usmanov rejected Prokhorov’s offer.
Prokhorov will chair on Thursday a meeting of the initiative group, which will nominate him as an independent presidential candidate.
The meeting will feature singer Alla Pugacheva, actor Leonid Yarmolnik, musician Andrei Makarevich, television journalist Alexander Lubimov, and founder of the City without Drugs Foundation Evgeny Roizman.
The meeting will take place at the Financial University, which Prokhorov, who is 46, graduated with honours in 1989.
Prokhorov announced his plans to run for presidency during a briefing on December 12.
