MOSCOW, December 15 (Itar-Tass) —— More than 14,000 people who got in traffic accidents have been rescued by Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) specialists in Russia this year, Deputy Emergencies Minister Alexander Chupriyan told Itar-Tass.
The number of those who were blocked in wrecked cars and could not escape themselves and were recovered by rescuers with special equipment has exceeded 14,000, he said.
The deputy minister noted that the Emergencies Ministry was an active participant in the implementation of the Road Traffic Safety federal program. There were no complaints from the Interior Ministry against the rescue service in the program implementation, he added.
EMERCOM specialists came to traffic accident sites for more than 110,000 times in the past nine months, 29 percent more than last year. The number of responses also increased by a third in 2010, according to Chupriyan.
Rescuers come to half of all the traffic accident sites, the deputy minister said.
