KIEV, December 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Tajikistani President Emomali Rakhmon will arrive in Ukraine on an official visit on Thursday, December 15.
“We hope that the Tajikistani president’s visit will give a strong boost to further Ukrainian-Tajikistani dialogue at all levels and lay the political groundwork for deeper bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” Ukrainian presidential adviser Andrei Goncharuk said.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and Rakhmon plan to sign a joint statement that will back up the main agreements on the intensification of cooperation in concrete fields, primarily trade, economy and energy, as well as science, technology and humanitarian affairs.
The two sides will also make several inter-governmental agreements, including on cooperation between the Constitutional Courts and the National Olympic Committees of the two countries.
After the talks in Kiev, Rakhmon will visit Dnepropetrovsk on the second day of his stay in Ukraine.
Trade turnover between Ukraine and Tajikistan in the first nine months of this year increased by 116 percent to 60 million U.S. dollars. Kiev plans to “step up cooperation with Tajikistan in the fields of construction, energy and industry”, Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Anatoly Bliznyuk said.
Tajikistan has suggested creating its national cultural centre in Kiev. One of the projects calls for opening a joint energy department at Kharkov Polytechnic Institute and Technological University in Dushanbe.
