NALCHIK, December 14 (Itar-Tass) — Several gunmen were killed by police and security officers in a special operation in the village of Zhankhotenko in Kabardino-Balkaria’s Baksan district overnight to Wednesday, the press service of the republican interior ministry told Itar-Tass.

A group of armed men offered resistance when police tried to detain them. Various reports put the number of the killed from one to four.

No one was hurt from among police and security officers. A criminal case has been opened on charges of assaulting law enforcers and illegal possession of arms.

The area of the special operation has been cordoned off. Police involve aircraft to spot the gunmen who fled the scene.

On December 10, the regime of counterterrorist operation was imposed near this village.
