ST PETERSBURG, December 13 (Itar-Tass) — The St.Petersburg branch of A Just Russia Opposition Party is beginning a series of political actions demanding annulment of the results of the election to the city's legislative assembly. It also demands a vote recount.

On Tuesday, the city's branch staged the first picket near the building of the Mariinsky Palace which accommodates the Petersburg Election Commission and the Legislative Assembly. The participants claimed the election had been rigged and demanded the resignation of CEC chief Alexander Gnetov.

"We officially do not recognize the results of the election to St.Petersburg's legislature and demand their annulment and a re-election," head of the Party's St.Petersburg branch Oksana Dmitriyeva stated.

She reminded that this position had been voiced by the city CEC's member Mikhail Voronkov with the right of decisive vote, who refused to sign the final documents and left the CEC's session in protest.

The head of the St.Petersburg branch of A Just Russia claimed that inconsistencies had been detected at more than 200 voting sanctions between the protocols and the Vybory automated system. As a result, A Just Russia lost 38,000 votes. In Dmitriyeva's opinion, "it is a sufficient reason to claim a considerable distortion of the voters’ will."

"We'll be seeking the opening of criminal cases against all the members of the district election commissions where large fraud was detected," she said.

She also promised to send a statement to the country's leadership and the Central Election Commission demanding the resignation of the head of St.Petersburg's election commission.

The party plans to pool all the complaints about actions by district election commissions and file a lawsuit with the view of annulment of the election results.

However, the Party is likely to decide to take mandates in the city's legislature, as neither of the other Opposition Parties which claimed violations during the election to St.Petersburg's legislature had supported A Just Russia’s position.

"Only A Just Russia officially does not recognize the results of the election to Petersburg's parliament," Dmitriyeva underlined.

On December 12, the city election commission summed up the official results of the election to the legislative assembly as it approved the final protocols.

United Russia won 20 seats, A Just Russia - 12, the Communists - 7, Yabloko - 6, and the Liberal Democratic Party - 5. Turnout was 55.01 percent, according to the city election officials. The city legislature will meet for its first session on December 14.
