GORKY, Moscow region, December 12 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has turned down the rumors on a possibility of the Kremlin’s interference in the activities of the judiciary system.
“There’s never been any such interference,” he said at a meeting with judges of the Constitution Court.
“Quite a few rumors on the issue are circulating but only the people totally unconnected to the operations of our courts can make such claims,” Medvedev said.
He said this in a reaction to the opinion of critics quoted by the Constitution Court chairman, Dr Valery Zorkin. The critics allege that “the Kremlin has trampled on the Russian judiciary system.”
“Not only this doesn’t have anything to do with reality, this is a blunt, odious and malicious libel,” Zorkin said.
“We’ll be able to say with clear consciousness when we quit our posts there isn’t any such interference at present, has never been and I hope will never be,” he said.
“The only thing I could possible add to it here is that this applies in full measure to other courts, too – the Arbitration Court and the court of general jurisdiction,” Medvedev said.
