TSKHINVAL, December 11 (Itar-Tass) — South Ossetia’s Prime Minister Vadim Brovtsev, who will become the republic’s acting president until new elections are held on March 25, 2012, expressed confidence that he would be able to cope with the powers conferred on him.
His appointment after President Eduard Kokoity announced his resignation on Saturday will take effect on December 11.
“I believe that in the near future we will hold a meeting of the intergovernmental commission that is co-chaired by me from South Ossetia and Regional Development Minister Viktor Basargin from Russia,” Brovtsev told reporters late on Saturday.
He added that in the near future the commission “will be able to come to agreement on many interesting steps and projects that will be implemented on the territory of the republic,” he said.
“There are certain plans concerning the law enforcement structures and other directions,” he said. “But the main thing is - I would like to address to the republic’s people – “one man can’t win a war”. We need to move along the path of the republic’s restoration together with the people, to move towards peaceful life hand in hand with Russia.”
“I believe that together we will open the calendar of future elections and will hold them at the high democratic level. We still have to do much to really consolidate the society, turn it onto the right track and persuade it that many good things can be done,” Brovtsev said.
