Nazarbayev refuses to accept “People’s Hero” title

ASTANA, December 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev has refused to accept the “People’s Hero” title, one of the highest awards in the country.

“I will not sign the law that gives me the ‘Khalyk Kakharmany’ [People’s Hero] title,” Nazarbayev told journalists on Saturday, December 10.

On December 1, the parliament approved legislative amendments, initiated by Prime Minister Karim Masimov, that give Nazarbayev the “People’s Hero” title.
