Moscow stabber charged with attempted murder, hooliganism

The victims include a child, whose mother was stabbed right before his eyes

MOSCOW, December 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Criminal charges have been brought against Alexei Arbuzov, 27, who stabbed pedestrians with a knife in Moscow on Friday, Russian Investigation Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass.

Arbuzov is suspected of attempting eight murders. The other charge brought against him is hooliganism, Markin said.

Forensic experts and detectives of the Committee are working on the incident scene, he said.

“The suspect is in custody, his arrest is under consideration. Psychiatrists will examine him soon,” Markin said.

One died and ten were injured in an attack of a man who was stabbing pedestrians with a knife in Moscow on Friday, the city police department told Itar-Tass earlier in the day.

“Eleven people were hurt, and one of them died. The victims include a child, whose mother was stabbed right before his eyes. The child has a psychological trauma,” the department said.

A police patrol seized the attacker at about 1:00 p.m. Moscow time on Korneichuk Street.

“Four victims were reported at first. Later on hospitals reported another four victims, mostly elderly people. The assailant also stabbed a woman right in front of a child’s eyes,” the source said.

The detainee lives in Shatura, Moscow region. “The police assisted by eyewitnesses seized the man within 15 minutes. He was taken to the Bibirevo precinct for an investigation,” the department said.
