Russia earmarks funds for state border construction until 2020

In 2012 all the facilities being built in the framework of preparations for the APEC summit due in Vladivostok should be commissioned on time, Ivanov said

MOSCOW, December 9 (Itar-Tass) — Vice-premier Sergei Ivanov said on Friday that state and non state-funds may be used for state border construction at a number of border check points. "I hope that in the near future a federal purpose orientated program will be submitted to the government," the vice-premier said. He reminded of the volume of budgetary funds earmarked for border construction until 2020, saying it was around 134 billion roubles.

"I hope that the federal purpose-orientated program will be submitted to the government in the next few months," Ivanov said, adding the government endorsed a concept of the program last week.

The new program aims to create a most modern system of state border defense, taking into account measures of rebuff to terrorism, illegal immigration and drugs trafficking. Now, contraband is different from what it was 30-40 years ago, Ivanov said. He mentioned unusual forms of contraband, such as contraband from China brought to Russia through Finnish or Estonian borders.

The vice-premier instructed the state border guard service to step up efforts for creation and coordination of a uniform mechanism which regulates the work of check points on the external contour of the Customs Union, and a program of border construction and reinforcing the border of the EurAsEC member -states. ”Above all this pertains to our Mediterranean partners and friends,” Ivanov specified.
