12 self-nominees already state to run in presidential elections

For the registration a self-nominee should collect no less than 2 million signatures in his support

MOSCOW, December 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Already 12 self-nominees stated about their intentions to run in the presidential elections in Russia, Chairman of the Central Elections Commission Vladimir Churov told Itar-Tass on Thursday. Meanwhile, “a hopeful failed to form an initiative group of 500 people for his self-nomination,” he noted.

The self-nomination is made at a meeting of the initiative group. For the registration a self-nominee should collect no less than 2 million signatures in his support. It was earlier reported that a representative of the non-system opposition Eduard Limonov and the former Vladivostok mayor Viktor Cherepkov are planning to run in the presidential elections as self-nominees. As for the nominees from the political parties, only the United Russia leader Vladimir Putin filed the documents in the Central Elections Commission.

The Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 4, 2012.
