S Ossetia’s vice-speaker urges Kokoity to resign

South Ossetia’s deputy parliamentary speaker has called on the republic’s president, Eduard Kokoity, to step down

TSKHINVAL, December 6 (Itar-Tass) — South Ossetia’s deputy parliamentary speaker has called on the republic’s president, Eduard Kokoity, to step down.

“It is necessary to stop confrontation,” Mira Tskhovrebova said. “Not to worsen the situation and take it from being pushed to a dangerous brink, the incumbent president should take an urgent decision – to resign and hand over his powers in compliance with the republic’s Constitution.”

“Today the president in front of the protesting nation that twice trusted its future into his hands should accede to its will. Only in this case we will keep the situation within the existing legal framework and stop confrontation,” she said.
