MOSCOW, December 5 (Itar-Tass) – Russia is reducing the level of diplomatic relations with Qatar because of an incident involving the Russian ambassador, the Foreign Ministry said in its Twitter blog on Monday.
On Friday, December 2, the ministry demanded the Qatari authorities immediately investigate the incident in Doha involving the Russian ambassador to Qatar.
The incident happened when an attempt was made “to physically affect the Russian ambassador and officials from the Russian Embassy to Qatar meeting him”, during the delivery of diplomatic mail at the airport in Doha, spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich said.
Moscow expects the Qatari side to respond to the November 30 diplomatic note of protest and to strictly punish those responsible. No further details of the incident were reported.
