United Russia captures overwhelming majority of votes in Chechnya

It said 99.47 percent of eligible voters had cast their votes for the party

GROZNY, December 5 (Itar-Tass) — The ruling United Russia party has captured an overwhelming majority of the votes in Chechnya in the election to the State Duma lower house of parliament, the regional election commission reports.

It said 99.47 percent of eligible voters had cast their votes for the party. The Just Russia party received 0.17 percent of the votes, the Communist Party – 0.10 percent. Patriots of Russia received 0.06 percent of the votes, while Yabloko – 0.05. The Right Cause party and the Liberal Democratic Party received 0.04 percent of the votes each.

The chairman of the election commission, Ismail Baikhanov, said there had been no incidents and violations during the election.
