Explosive device defused near Interior Ministry in Penza

MOSCOW, December 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Criminal proceedings were instituted over the fact of finding an explosive device on the territory the Experts and Criminalists Centre of the Department of the Russian Interior Ministry for the Penza Region, ITAR-TASS learnt at the Department of Russian Interior Ministry for the Penza Region on Monday.

A suspicious polyethylene bag with a cardboard box was found in Plekhanov Street in the Zheleznodorozhny district at night on December 4. According to the law enforcement bodies, the box was filled with a mixture of ammoniac nitrate and aluminium powder, and a homemade detonator.

An operational investigation team, cynologists with sniffer dogs and suppers immediately left for the site of the incident. The explosive device was rendered harmless. Its power was equivalent to about 2.3 kilograms of TNT.

Criminal proceedings were instituted. Investigation is underway. Measures are being taken to establish the criminals involved in the incident.
