MOSCOW, December 3 (Itar-Tass) — “The day of calm” is passing in the country without violations, said on Saturday secretary of the Russian CEC Nikolai Konkin, speaking with reporters. “There is no so far any information on any illegal actions,” he said.
The CEC secretary expressed hope that “there will be today no apprehensive signals”.
Konkin also assured that the CEC and law enforcement bodies make their utmost to ensure law and order at polling stations on Election Day.
“The day of calm” before the Duma elections started on Saturday all over the country’s territory at midnight local time. The law forbids political parties participating in the elections, any advertising on this day. This “veto” will last till 21.00 on December 4 when all polling stations close in the country. Calls by election commissions at various levels are permitted on “the day of calm”, appealing to participate in the elections and explaining voting rules.
The elections to the sixth State Duma will be held on December 4. All the seven political parties participate in them for the first time.
