MOSCOW, December 3 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow Region law enforcers detained
Central Asian immigrants who could be involved in hatching a terror act, Itar-Tass learnt on Saturday from the press service of the main extremism department of the Russian Interior Ministry.
“Officers of the main extremism department of the Russian Interior Ministry and its territorial divisions continue measures on laying bare ringleaders and participants in extremist groups, conducting their illegal activities in the territory of the Russian Federation,” said a representative of the main department.
“While checking information on the operation of a cell of the international terrorist organization Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, department officers detained four Central Asian immigrants who, according to reliable information, could be involved in engineering terror acts.”
According to a source, the above persons, living in flats in Moscow and in the Noginsk district of the Moscow Region, conducted a covert way of life, strictly observed rules of clandestine life and often changed their telephone numbers.
“In compliance with legislation of the Russian Federation, a decision was taken to detain those citizens. It turned out that the foreigners lived in Russia without documents, identifying their personalities,” the department reported.
While conducting a search at one of flats, a sniff dog found traits of narcotic substances. “While inspecting a flat in Moscow, officers of the extremism department found a bundle with heroine weighing 22 grams owned by suspects,” said the representative of the main extremism department.
He noted that “according to available information, members of the international terrorist organization were engaged in illicit drug trafficking in order to finance extremist activities”. “Received money was used to recruit new members of the organization,” the department noted.
The detainees are now checked on their complicity in illegal activities in the Russian territory.
