Policemen nabbed for extorting 5 mln rbls from businessman

MOSCOW, December 3 (Itar-Tass) — Five policemen and an investigator were detained in Moscow on Friday red-handed while extorting five million roubles from a businessmen for shelving his criminal case, Itar-Tass learnt on Friday from the press service of the Moscow Police Department.

“In line with continued struggle against corruption among law enforcers, the branch of the Federal Security Service for Moscow and the Moscow Region and the inside security service of the Moscow Police Department carried out a joint operation on December 2 in the Moscow Central Borough. As a result, they detained three police officers in the Presnya district, two officers of the Moscow inside security service and an investigator for the Moscow Southern Borough, the press service noted.

According to police data, “it was established during the operation that the above-mentioned officers tried to export five million roubles from a businessman, allegedly for rendering assistance in stopping a criminal case”.

“They were caught red-handed while receiving the above sum. All materials on this fact will be forwarded to the police division in the Moscow Central Borough to decide the question on instituting a criminal case, the press service reported.

Besides, an inspection is now in progress to establish all circumstances and facts, contributing to the commission of the crime.

“By its results, all the above officers will be discharged, while their commanding officers will be called to strict responsibility down to discharging from the Interior Ministry,” the department underlined.
