LVOV, December 3 (Itar-Tass) — The Anti-Fascist Congress of Intellectuals of Ukrainian western regions, held here on Friday, called on the world community to stop the revival of neo-Nacism in the republic. Organisers – the Ukrainian Anti-Fascist Committee—had to change five times the place of the meeting, since local authorities forbade to hold it in the city.
Over 300 representatives from the Lvov, Volyno-Ternopol, Ivano-Frankovsk and Trans-Carpathian regions, including parliament deputies and executives of various non-government organizations, gathered to say “No” to Nazism in Ukraine.
“Nobody appraised blood-shedding events on May 9 in Lvov when war veterans who came to pay homage to liberators on the Hill of Glory, were roughed up brutally, said chairman of the Ukrainian Anti-Nazi Committee Georgy Buiko.
According to the chairman, “local and state authorities abet the spread of neo-Nazism in the western region. Therefore, intellectuals in the region expressed deep concern over the rise in the deadly threat of fascism”.
The Anti-Fascist Congress drafted an appeal to UEFA president Michelle Platini, requesting not to stage CE-2012 football games in Lvov where fascism is publicized, and there are calls for violence, aggression and nationalist dictatorship.
