Russia’s Opposition Yabloko party to nominate its candidate for Russian president

Russia’s opposition Yabloko party will nominate its founder Grigory Yavlinsky as its candidate for Russian president

VLADIMIR, December 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s opposition Yabloko party will nominate its founder Grigory Yavlinsky as its candidate for Russian president, the party leader, Sergei Mitrokhin told a news conference on Thursday.

According to Mitrokhin, the decision was taken the party’s political committee.

In the mean time, Mitrokhin said his party is ready to consider other democratic candidates. “We are not insisting on our candidate, we merely suggest that all the nominees should be considered in primaries, and we invite all democratic parties, organizations and movements, either registered or not, to take part in these primaries,” he said and added that the “party excludes participation of nationalists, radical leftists and extremists.”

“Of course, we will back our candidate – Grigory Yavlinsky. I think him a consistent democrat who has always had a firm position, has never knuckled under, has never dashed from opposition to power and back. He can put forth a consolidated position of the entire democratic opposition,” Mitrokhin added.
