BISHKEK, December 1 (Itar-Tass) —— Kyrgyzstan considers Russia as its key partner, the country’s new President, Almazbek Atambayev, said on Thursday after the inauguration ceremony.
At the same time, he stressed, his country wants to take a due place in the world community and hopes cooperation with Russia and other partner states, such as Kazakhstan, will help to achieve this.
“I am sure our accession to the Customs Union [of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan] will present a possibility to encourage economic development in the republic,” he said. “We are sure to continue cooperation with our partners and neighbors.”
Atambayev won an overwhelming majority in the presidential elections of October 30. He scored 62 percent of the vote leaving other 15 candidates far behind.
