MINSK, November 30 (Itar-Tass) —The Supreme Court of Belarus has ruled that Dmitry Konovalov is guilty of a terrorist act staged in Minsk metro on April 11, 2011. The verdicts is being read out on Wednesday.
Chief culprit Dmitry Konovalov has been found guilty of bringing an explosive device to Minsk metro and exploding it, the court said. The other defendant, Kovalyov, was Konovalov’s accomplice, taking the explosive device to a rented apartment and bringing it in a combat condition, the court said. Konovalov was also found guilty of staging an explosion on Independence Day in July 2008.
The verdict has been read out by Deputy Chairman of Belarus Supreme Court Alexander Fedortsov for some four-five hours.
Earlier, Prosecutor Alexei Stouk had demanded a capital punishment for both 25- year-old defendants.
Belarus' ombudsmen do not think that the defendants’ crime has been proved and are demanding an additional investigation.
