PYONGYANG, November 30 (Itar-Tass) — North Korea is ready to resume the six-party talks on the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula without any preconditions and comply with the conditions of the joint statement of their parties made on December 19 on a synchronised action basis, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) stated here on Wednesday. He stressed at the same time that DPRK will not tolerate attempts at depriving the country of the possibility to pursue nuclear programs for peaceful purposes or at delaying them for an indefinite period.

According to the diplomat, North Korea “at an accelerated pace is creating an experimental light-water nuclear reactor and implementing a program for the production of low-enriched uranium.” According to him, the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes is a “legitimate right of every sovereign state.” Such a reactor would settle the problem of electricity shortages in DPRK, the Foreign Ministry official noted. He added that North Korea made the decision on the construction of its own reactor after the United States failed to keep the promise to supply the reactor.
