MV Sergei Abramov mechanic’s body found after fire

MOSCOW, November 27 (Itar-Tass) — The body of the MV Sergei Abramov mechanic was found in the Moscow northern river port two weeks after the fire, a city police source told Itar-Tass.

The vessel burned down in the early morning hours of November 14. It took the firemen 13 hours to put out the blaze of 1,500 square meters. The vessel tilted to the right and its aft sank. Two sailors were taken to hospital. According to the preliminary information, the fire was sparked by a short circuit.

The Federal Sea and River Transport Service will supervise the evacuation of the ship from the Moscow northern river port.

The ship was built in Czechoslovakia in 1960 and underwent profound modernization in 2003. It was one of the best river cruisers with the length of 96.18 meters, the width of 14.99 meters, the draught of 2.4 meters and the speed of up to 25 kilometers per hour. The ship could carry 146 passengers.
