UK stops exchanging military information with Russia under CFE Treaty

A situation in which 29 states honor their commitments and one does not cannot last indefinitely, the minister said

LONDON, November 25 (Itar-Tass) —— The United Kingdom will stop exchanging military information with Russia due to the latter’s suspension of the fulfillment of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), British Minister for Europe David Lidington said in a written message to the House of Commons on Friday.

The UK has been fulfilling its CFE Treaty commitments and seeking the use of rights granted by it since 2007, he said. The UK, its NATO allies and other signatories of the treaty have been taking substantial efforts to draw Russia into negotiations and find a mutually acceptable solution but to no avail, he said.

A situation in which 29 states honor their commitments and one does not cannot last indefinitely, the minister said.

The Russian president suspended Moscow’s fulfillment of the CFE Treaty and related international agreements in 2007.
