State Duma of new convocation may have first meeting Dec 21-23

Official publication of the results should be no later than on December 24

MOSCOW, November 24 (Itar-Tass) — The first plenary meeting of the State Duma of the sixth convocation, which will be elected on December 4, may take place on December 21-23, Head of the State Duma’s regulations committee Otari Arshba said on Thursday.

“If official results of the elections are announced before December 11, it will be quite probable that an organisational meeting of the new parliamentarians will take place before December 23,” he said explaining that the meeting will have to elect the State Duma’s speaker, deputy speakers and heads of the committees.

In compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, the State Duma should have its first meeting after elections no later than on the 30th day of the official results of the elections, he said. However, the president may call for an earlier meeting.

Earlier, a source at the lower house of the parliament told Itar-Tass that the first meeting of the State Duma of new convocation will take place on December 26-27.

According to the schedule of the State Duma’s election campaign, Russia’s Central Elections Commission should have final results of the elections no later than on December 19. Official publication of the results should be no later than on December 24.
