Lavrov stresses need to settle situation in Darfur through dialogue

The two men had “a substantial and sincere conversation on prospects to settle the conflict in Sudan’s region of Darfur,” ministry sources reported

MOSCOW, November 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday emphasized a need to settle the situation in Darfur through a dialogue of all parties in the conflict, the Foreign Ministry reported after Lavrov’s meeting with the head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, Ibrahim Gambari.

The two men had “a substantial and sincere conversation on prospects to settle the conflict in Sudan’s region of Darfur,” ministry sources reported. “The Russian side has confirmed fundamental positions as to the necessity to settle the situation solely politically and diplomatically, through a dialogue of all parties in the conflict,” ministry sources said.
