Man who shot at Irkutsk region police detained

There were no casualties among civilians or special task force police

IRKUTSK, November 24 (Itar-Tass) — Police in the town of Slyudyanka, Irkutsk region, have detained a man who shot at law-enforcement personnel on Wednesday.

"On Wednesday, residents reported aggressive behavior of a man in an apartment house. As police approached the door, the man opened fire. He continued firing at the police car in the yard from the balcony," an official at the regional department of the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass.

"The talks with the man over his surrendering to the authorities continued throughout the night. As a result of the operation conducted by a special unit, he was detained. The man was identified as Sergei Lider, a 36-year-old resident," the SK said.

There were no casualties among civilians or special task force police. Criminal proceedings were opened over attempted murder of law-enforcement personnel. An investigation is underway.
