Ministry reports decrease in Russian gas purchases by Ukraine since May

Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine in October 2011 made up only 60.5 percent of the October 2010 level

MOSCOW, November 24 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine’s purchases of Russian natural gas have decreased since May 2011, the Ministry of Economic Development said.

Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine in October 2011 made up only 60.5 percent of the October 2010 level.

At the same time, Russian gas supplies to other CIS countries in the first ten months of this year increased by 11.8 percent from the same period of last year to 61.4 billion cubic metres.

Gas exports to Ukraine accounted for 57.2 percent of gas supplies to CIS countries, while export on the whole increased 1.3 times mainly due to bigger supplies in the first quarter of the year when gas prices were much lower than now.

Under the Sakhalin-2 project, 8.7 million tonnes of LNG were produced in January-October 2011, an increase of 5.3 percent since last year.

Russia exports 7.44 million tonnes of LNG in the first nine months of this year, which makes up 105.7 percent of the same period of last year.
